This gorgeous chocolatey treat is a favourite here in the Panasonic Kitchen. The full cream cheese filling perfectly complements the moist sponge. Great to make and enjoy in pairs!

Steps

Preheat oven on CONVECTION 150℃

Put all ingredients in to a bowl, mix until they are blended together and divide between the two lined cake tins.

Place in the pre-heated oven and cook for 40 minutes.

Leave to cool.

To make the cream cheese frosting, cut the butter into chunks and place into the bowl and beat until very pale and creamy.

Sift the icing sugar into the bowl in 3 stages, beating it well in between until smooth.

Drain the cream cheese completely. Incorporate it in to the icing sugar, this can be done with an electric whisk. . It’ll look like liquid at first, then it’ll come together and appear light and whipped. Be careful not to beat the icing too much though, otherwise it will end up runny again.

Spoon into a bowl and pop into the fridge for half an hour to firm up a little. Use this cream to decorate your cake.

1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
1/2 tsp Baking powder
2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
140g Soft Brown Sugar
2 tbsp Red Food Colouring
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 tbsp Golden Syrup
2 Medium Eggs
150ml Vegetable Oil
150ml Milk
Filling
175g Unsalted Butter, Softened
400g Icing Sugar
300g Full Fat Cream Cheese
