Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
1.5 tsp Yeast
450g Strong White Bread Flour
50g Sugar
0.5 tsp Salt
1 tsp Mixed Spice
1 tsp Cinnamon
50g Butter
1 Egg Medium, beaten
220ml Milk
100g Chocolate Chips Can be dried fruit if prefered
50g Flour For the crosses
1 tsp Sugar For the crosses
4-5 tbsp Water For the crosses
2 tbsp Milk For the glaze
2 tbsp Caster sugar For the glaze

As it’s Easter, it is perfectly acceptable to have chocolate chips in your hot cross buns, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! These yummy breakfast buns are best when they’re toasted and slathered in butter!

Your breadmaker and microwave work well together to help you achieve the tastiest hot cross buns! This recipe makes 12 buns.

Place the bun ingredients into the bread pan in the order listed above, set the machine to BASIC RAISIN DOUGH, reserving the chocolate or fruit for when the machine beeps.

When the cycle is complete remove dough from the pan and shape into 12 equal size balls. Cover with greased clingfilm and leave to prove until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven on CONVECTION 180°C.

Meanwhile, to make the crosses, mix the flour and sugar together and add a 1tsp of water to give you a thick paste. Spoon into a piping bag and pipe crosses onto the buns.

Bake for 15-20 mins until lightly brown and hollow sounding when tapped.

Make the glaze by dissolving the sugar in the milk and brushing over top of the hot buns.
