Top Tips for Cooking for the Family

Hi, I’m Dannii, I’m a parent, a foodie, a content creator and ultimately, a very busy person! You can find me on Instagram here and my blog here. As a manic mum of two, I am always looking for ways to save time in the kitchen without sacrificing on taste and still being able to provide nutritious meals for my kids. Since we started using our Panasonic NN-CD87KSBPQ microwave daily, this has made this task so much easier.

Let’s talk about food waste. We hate it. It is literally throwing money in the bin, not to mention the impact that is has on the environment too. That’s why we were so excited that Panasonic had teamed up with Love Food Hate Waste to share some amazing recipes that will help you to reduce waste and use up what you have – all whilst saving time and effort by using the Slimline Combi Microwave.

Which leads me nicely onto tip two. Dishes like bolognese and shepherd’s pie are great for batch cooking and then portioning out and putting in the freezer for easy meals throughout the week – on those days where the kid’s busy social lives take over and you just can’t be bothered to cook. Having a freezer stocked with homemade batch cooked meals is a total time saver and it helped me so much just after I gave birth. It stopped us from ordering pizza seven nights a week.

Like the above, there are a multitude of other meals that can be batch cooked in the Panasonic NN-CD87KSBPQ microwave, including pasta bake (we make a roasted vegetable one that is a total fridge raid to reduce waste) and the fact it has a grill, oven and combi setting means it can even get the topping nice and crispy too. As well as Risotto, which is also easy to adapt and you can add any veg and different cheese you have left over. Chicken burgers that are easy to stuff with shredded veggies, Cauliflower and chickpea curry and soups are all great batch cook meals too.

As parents, we are all just trying to do our best to feed our kids nutritious and delicious meals that they will actually eat. There is nothing worse than making the effort to make something wonderful, only to be greeted with a sulking face, or worse the plate thrown on the floor. Well, Panasonic have helped with the effort part of it as the Junior Menu setting on the microwave makes making kid friendly meals SO much easier. What is it? It is a pre-programmed setting for kid friendly meals like flapjacks, pasta bakes, frittatas (great for adding LOADS of veggies), fish pies, quesadillas and rice pudding, which means they can also get involved with cooking, introducing kids to cooking at a young age (hopefully meaning fresh, home cooking will stay with them as they grow!)

The microwave also includes eight easy to use auto options that have been designed to speed up cooking time for busy parents and get the most from fresh and healthy recipes. Pureeing fruit and vegetables for babies, defrosting frozen meals, cooking the family’s favourite are no longer a time consuming process. When we first started weaning our now 9 month old, we used this setting loads to make purees and finger foods.

If you don’t think of yourself as much of a cook, and struggle to even cook toast. Then you are going to love this microwave due to the Genius Sensor. It’s just one push for reheating food, and it works out the time for you. Now that really is genius. It measures the steam levels inside the microwave and automatically sets the best cooking time which is a game-changer when you have a baby in one hand and a toddler in the other!

This microwave is probably one of the most used appliances in our kitchen. We love that it is family sized (at 34L), so it can cook a meal big enough for us all, but it’s also slimline so it doesn’t take up half the kitchen. It is so handy for cooking tasty and family friendly meals.
